What is AXYRA — Push, hack and slip past thirty sealed sectors

AXYRA is a top-down stealth game that is really a crate-pushing puzzle with guards walking through it. You were grown in a vat under an arcology and raised on a promise: when your number comes up you ascend to The Garden. Tonight your number came up, and you found out what ascension actually means. Thirty sectors of medical wings, cryo vaults and reactor floors stand between the sublevel and the open sea, and every one of them is locked behind a gate that only opens if you solve something.

There are three kinds of gate and the game rotates between them. Amber P gates want energy cells pushed in a straight line into glowing floor sockets, which is a warehouse problem: a cell shoved into a corner is a cell you will never move again. Cyan X gates want terminals breached, and a breach is a short glyph sequence you watch once and then repeat. Red L gates want a keycard that is usually hidden somewhere a guard is standing. Every sector layout is built from a seed, so the maps are stable — the same sector is the same room for everyone playing it.

How to play

  1. Move with WASD or the arrows and hold the key to keep walking. Your strike hits the three tiles in front of you; dash covers two tiles instantly and goes through a swinging guard.
  2. Push the blue-core crates in a straight line only. A crate against a wall cannot be pulled back, so decide the direction before you commit, and clear the row behind it first.
  3. Stand beside a terminal and press E to start a breach. Watch the glyph sequence, then repeat it from the eight-symbol grid. A mistake costs you nothing but time, and time is what the alarm eats.
  4. Stay out of the blue vision cones and out of the Oculus wall sweeps. Being seen wakes the whole sector; the EMP blast buys you a few seconds of stunned guards and blind cameras, and you start with very few charges.

Strategies that work

  • The ghost bonus is worth more than the kill bonus. Finishing a sector without ever being detected pays a flat bonus on top of the time bonus, and across thirty sectors that is thousands of points. Killing a guard pays once. When in doubt, wait for the patrol to turn.
  • Energy cells are the only thing in the game you can lose forever. Before you touch one, walk the whole room and find the socket first, then work backwards: which straight line ends on the socket, and which side of the crate do you have to stand on to push along it. Some rooms put a socket directly against a wall, and the only approach is from the open side.
  • Breaches get longer as you descend. The first sectors ask for four glyphs, the last ones ask for seven. The symbol grid is shuffled every time, so memorise the shapes, not the positions. If the sequence slips, let it fail on purpose and watch it again rather than guessing — a wrong input costs a trace spike and nothing more.
  • Save the EMP for the Oculus cameras, not for guards. A camera that spots you screams and the whole sector converges; a guard that spots you only chases. One EMP charge kills every camera sweep in range for long enough to cross a hall, and camera rooms are exactly where the keycards sit.
  • The augment screen appears between sectors and Ghost Step is the quiet winner. Dropping enemy detection range by one tile does not sound like much, but it is the difference between crossing a two-tile corridor and having to go the long way round. Vital Boost is the choice for players who plan to fight; almost nobody should plan to fight.

A little history

AXYRA borrows its shape from two things that rarely share a game: the warehouse crate puzzle, where a box pushed into a corner ends the level, and the top-down infiltration game, where a guard's cone of vision is the real wall. Putting them together changes both. A crate puzzle with a timer is a different puzzle, because the elegant solution and the survivable solution stop being the same thing. The story frame — a body grown to be spare parts, told it has won a lottery — is old science fiction, and the game leans on it for one reason: it explains why the protagonist knows the building perfectly and has never been outside it. In the daily challenge every sector is rebuilt from the day's date, so the thirty rooms you walk are the thirty rooms everyone else walks that day, down to the last crate.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to fight anything?

No. Every sector can be cleared without a single kill, and the game pays you a ghost bonus for doing it. Combat exists so that a mistake is survivable, not so that it is the plan.

I pushed a cell into a corner. Is the sector lost?

Usually yes for that cell, but not always for the sector — some rooms have more cells than sockets. If you are truly stuck, pause and restart the sector: you keep your augments and your score, and only the sector clock resets.

Does it work on a phone?

Not properly. AXYRA needs the keyboard for movement, strike, dash, hack and the EMP, and there are no on-screen controls. Play it on a computer.
